SPECIAL MOC NOTICE
The American Board of Pathology (ABP) sent certified letters to 12 diplomates informing them that their 2006 certificates will expire on December 31, 2011 due to their failure to participate in Maintenance of Certification (MOC). These letters were mailed on September 8, 2011. Unless all of the required MOC reporting information is received by the ABP by December 31, the American Board of Medical Specialties will be notified that these individuals are no longer certified. The certificates involved include Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Pathology (5), Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine (1), Cytopathology (3), Dermatopathology (1), Hematology (1), and Medical Microbiology (1).
After December 31, 2011, these individuals have 5 years to seek reinstatement of their certificates by bringing all MOC reporting requirements up to date. After December 31, 2016, they will have to complete all applicable requirements for initial certification if they wish to be certified by the ABP.
DO NOT CALL THE ABP OFFICE TO ASK IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE 12 DIPLOMATES. If you have submitted MOC information, your certificate is safe even if you have not yet heard that your report was approved.
